Romanticizing My 9-5 Day

I have always been a bit dramatic when it comes to my nightly routine, but I have no shame. I by no means live a monetarily rich life, but I’ve learned that does not mean I can’t live a luxurious one. I’ve also learned upon graduating college and moving home how important my nights are. Whether you are working remotely or completely in person, the hours following 5pm are nothing short of precious. The time to truly recharge for a new day. So no, while I am not rich, I feel rich.

Since I think I am full of splendid ideas, I figured why not share the random, little things I do to feel rich and ready. Here goes nothing…

Morning Time

  • Firstly, fluff the damn bed, and ALWAYS have plenty of pillows, a fluffy duvet, and all white sheets to make your bed feel like you’re staying at the Ritz. It’s all an illusion after all.

  • Take ashwagandha. I cannot recommend this one more - ever since going off of my birth control pill, I began taking one ashwagandha capsule a day and it has done my anxiety and mood wonders. I feel less wound up and on edge, which means now I am somewhat normal. The one below is from the brand Nature Made and slays.

  • Buy an aloe vera plant, or any sort of plant, and water it every morning. First of all, now you’ll have more oxygen and one day, fresh aloe vera. Secondly, there’s something about waking up and immediately taking care of something other than myself that makes me feel extra productive. Not exactly a child, but something!

Evening Time

  • Come home to lavender infused hand towels. Go ahead, buy yourself a few soft hand towels, dowse them in cold water (depending on the season) and sprinkle several drops of lavender oil onto the towels. Roll them each tightly and store them in the fridge for a few hours. Once you come home, place one over your eyes/head and take a deep breath. That is all.

    • Side note - you can also do this same thing but with lemongrass or mint oil and use the infused towels in the morning to peacefully awake your senses!

  • Do some yoga or take a long walk to wind down - anything involving MOVEMENT. Movement makes me feel my best, so after sitting on my computer or interfacing with clients and coworkers all day, taking some time to attend a reformer pilates class (my current favorite choice), walk to a podcast or do some deep breathing at yoga cures my soul.

  • Infuse your hot shower with eucalyptus oil. I love to sprinkle a few dashes of eucalyptus oil in my shower once it’s steamy. The added oils clear my confuzzled brain and smell delicious.

  • Wear a matching PJ set. There is nothing that makes me feel more put together and prepared for a good night’s sleep than a matching pajama set (preferably silk).

Well, I hope you take my advice and have a nice day. If not, that’s fine too.
