KAPPA DELTA BID DAY 2022

“Serving Up the Best PC”

In January 2022, I planned and directed my sorority Kappa Delta’s bid day. Bid day is particularly special for both returning and new members, as we celebrate new sisters and friends welcoming our chapter.

This year, I wanted to go for a versatile theme. So often we see sororities host bid day’s with a narrow color scheme and taste - over the top and sometimes sparkly. Although I love all those things, my wonderful planning committee and I aimed to plan a celebration everyone can relate to, and what’s better than a little tennis?

With this theme, girls could add a touch of themselves - dressing it up or down however they wanted. Using my 11K budget, I allocated money to outfits, decorations and food for the girls.

A majority of the budget went to our crew necks - a keep sake no one would throw away the next day AND ended up leading the creative direction of the entire event. My friend and graphic design guru Alaina helped design our crew necks and banners to resemble a “court-side” appearance.

As for decorations, I spent lots of time researching what was worth our money and time. For instance, the tennis racket wall was a DIY project, in which we ordered the cheapest plastic rackets we could find on Amazon and spray painted them white. To receive them painted white would have bit a BIG portion out of our budget. On the other hand, our grass wall was more of an investment, as I had it custom made for this particular wall. Luckily, we still use it in the house for other purposes to this day!

As for other small touches, we set out a ball pit for girls to snap photos in and gave out court-side signs with each girls’ name on them along with vizors. We also made Kappa Delta letters covered in tennis balls (not pictured) and painted a water tank and tennis balls with our letters on them. Details like these made the event so intricate for the crowd.

We handed out giant slices of pizza to everyone and had a fabulous time!
